Prenatal Consult

BOOK AN APPOINTMENT
$89 Prenatal VIRTUAL Consult

This is a 1 hour appointment. You'll get a personalized one-on-one visit. I'll answer your questions and concerns. We'll discuss your short and long term goals, and customize a care plan for your needs. We'll talk about what to expect during your hospital stay or the first 48 hours after birth (colostrum, positioning, and more), what to do if problems arise, and where to find support. I'll do a breast evaluation and discuss hand expression technique.

BEFORE BOOKING A PRENATAL CONSULT:
  • Write down all main questions. Focus on the first 2-3 weeks after birth. However, all questions are welcome.
  • Have your partner or support person with you so both of you learn about your breastfeeding goals. Your partner's questions are also welcome and encouraged.
  • Wear clothing that will allow access to your breast for breast and nipple assessment.
  • We'll practice Hand Expression, so before our visit, please wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.
  • I use a HIPPA-Complaint Platform to protect your privacy. There are no recordings or pictures taken, unless I have your written consent.
  • You'll need a high-speed internet connection to have a better virtual experience.
  • A laptop, tablet or phone can be used as your camera.
  • Good lighting is essential. A light or lamp in front of you can help.

BEFORE BOOKING A LACTATION CONSULT:
  • For a HOME-VISIT, I travel within 15 miles of zip code 08055 (New Jersey.)  I bring my hospital grade scale for pre/post feed weights, and any other tool that can be helpful in your situation. For longer distance, there is a travel fee.
  • Home-Visit and Virtual-Consults are scheduled in advance, within 24-48 hours from your request.
  • Once appointment is confirmed, please check your email and complete the Online Intake form on the Patient Portal from my HIPPA complaint platform ASAP.  Please add a picture of your drivers license or other state ID with the form. This must be done at least 12 hours from our appointment.
  • I have partnered with Lactation Network to bill your insurance for lactation care. Current plans Lactation Network works with are: BCBS PPO, Anthem BCBS PPO, Cigna PPO and United PPO. If you prefer not to work with Lactation Network or have insurance outside of these plans, a SUPERBILL will be provided to seek reimbursement from your insurance company independently.
To use Lactation Network: Go to LactationNetwork.com and use my name "Milli Schaeffer Lactation Consultant" as the referring IBCLC. Submit the rest of the form. When you have received an approval email you can schedule an appointment with me.
  • There is a $50 fee for any cancellations within 24 hours.
  • There is an extra fee for twins or multiples (see consult's fees.)

BEFORE WE MEET:
  • Be ready to meet me on time, in person or virtually. We want to make the best of our time together to help you and your baby.
  • The plan is for your baby to be ready to feed 15-20 minutes once we start our visit. If your baby seems hungry before we meet, just top him/her off so he/she is not too upset.
  • Keep a log of feedings, including pumping, and diaper outputs for 24 hours before our visit.
  • If you need help with pumping, have baby fed an hour before we meet. Have pump plugged-in/fully charged, and parts clean and ready to use. Please, have a nickel, dime, and quarter on hand for nipple size comparison.
  • If baby is taking bottles only, or you need help with bottle feeding, please have clean bottles and milk ready. We'll practice paced bottle-feeding technique to mimic breastfeeding, to avoid flow preference, and overfeeding.
  • IN ADDITION, for a Virtual-Consult:
  • I use a HIPPA-Complaint Platform to protect your privacy. There are no recordings or pictures taken, unless I have your written consent.
  • You'll need a high-speed internet connection to have a better virtual experience.
  • A laptop, tablet or phone can be used as your camera. It would be useful if you can have two devices open so one can be in front of you while the other can be moving around for different angle views. Optional, but helpful, is to have a partner that can assist you by moving one device closer during assessments.
  • Good lighting is essential. A light or lamp in front of you can help.
  • A flashlight can help when assessing the baby's mouth.
  • Prior to our visit, I may ask you to send me videos and /or pictures of your baby's mouth to help me get a closer look.
  • Before our visit, I'll ask you to wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds as you'll be assisting me by doing oral/suck assessment on your baby's mouth.

AFTER OUR VISIT:
  • You'll received a detailed care plan, according to your needs.
  • I'll fax copy of your report to your OB and your baby's pediatrician.
  • I'll follow up with you within 48 hours to check-in and ensure things are doing well.
Any additional question or concern, please fell free to contact me.
